Find an IP Address from Social Media

A Beginner's Guide for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & More (2025)

Curious about where someone on social media is located? While you can't get an IP address directly from their profile, you can easily get it by having them click a special link. This guide shows you how.

The Basic Idea

You can't just look at a profile and see an IP address. Social media sites protect this information. The method is to send the person a link that you've created using an IP tracker. When they click it, their IP address is logged, and they are redirected to some other interesting content, so they don't suspect a thing.

The 3-Step Method

Step 1: Create Your Tracking Link

First, find a piece of content the person might be interested in. It could be a news article, a funny meme, a YouTube video, or even another social media profile. Copy the URL of that content.

Go to a link shortening service with tracking capabilities, like iplogger.icu. Paste your link into the box and click the button to generate a new, shorter link. This is your tracking link.

Step 2: Share the Link on Social Media

Now, share this new link with the person. You can do this in a few ways:

  • Send it in a Direct Message (DM) on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook.
  • Post it as a comment on one of their posts.
  • If you have a public profile, you could even put it in your bio and ask them to check it out.

Tip: Make it sound natural. For example: "Hey, I saw this and thought of you!" or "Check out this crazy article I found."

Step 3: Check the Location

Once they click the link, go back to the IPLogger website. You will see a new entry in your logs with the person's IP address, their country, and their city. It's that simple!

The person who clicked the link will be sent to the original content you chose, so they won't know their IP was logged.

Will This Always Work?

This method is very effective, but keep two things in mind:

  • They must click the link. If they don't click, you won't get any information.
  • VPNs can hide the real location. If the person is using a VPN, you will see the location of the VPN server, not their actual city. However, many IP loggers can detect if a VPN is being used.
